- IELTS Score Increase: The minimum IELTS score required will rise from 5.5 to 6.0.
- ELICOS Courses: For those enrolling in English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS), the required IELTS score will increase from 4.5 to 5.0.
- University Foundation or Pathway Programs: These programs will require a minimum IELTS score of 5.5.
Temporary Graduate Visas (Subclass 485)
- IELTS Score Adjustment: The minimum score will increase from 6.0 to 6.5, with at least 5.5 in each test component (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
- Test Validity: The validity period for test results will be reduced from three years to one year prior to the visa application date.
General Changes
- Migration Strategy Alignment: These changes are part of Australia’s broader migration strategy aimed at enhancing the quality of education and better integrating international students into Australian society.
- Exemptions: Hong Kong and British National Overseas (BNO) passport holders are exempt from these new requirements, maintaining the previous IELTS score of 6.0
These updates emphasize the importance of English proficiency for both academic success and community integration in Australia.
