New Genuine Student Requirement
Australia has introduced a new Genuine Student (GS) requirement for student visa applicants, which took effect on March 23, 2024. This new requirement replaces the previous Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) criterion. The GS requirement is designed to ensure that applicants are genuinely intending to study in Australia and will comply with their visa conditions.
Key changes to the genuine student requirement include providing detailed information about:
- Previous Study: Academic transcripts and certificates of attainment.
- Previous Study in Australia: Complete study records and reasons for any changes in courses or education providers.
- Current Employment: Details of current employment, including period and employer confirmation.
- Circumstances in Home Country: Explanation of personal ties, reasons for not studying locally, and the economic situation.
- Situations in Australia: Knowledge of the proposed course, planned accommodation, and financial stability.
- Value of Course to Future: Relevance to employment goals, expected salary and benefits, and alignment with future plans.
- Immigration History: Visa and travel history, previous applications, and any visa refusals or cancellations.
This updated requirement introduces a more detailed question-and-answer format aimed at thoroughly assessing the applicant’s intent and circumstances.
