In Australia, studying and training visas are available for individuals who wish to pursue education or training opportunities in the country. There are several visa subclasses designed to accommodate different types of study and training programs. Here are some of the main visa subclasses for studying and training in Australia:
The Student Visa (Subclass 500) is the primary visa for international students who wish to undertake full-time study in Australia at a registered education institution. The visa allows for limited work rights. You can work up to 48 hours per week during the semester and full-time during scheduled course breaks.
The duration of your stay will be determined by the length of your course.
You can include eligible family members in your visa application. Family members can work up to 48 hours per fortnight once you have commenced your course of study.
The Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) is for individuals who wish to live in Australia as the guardian of an international student who is under 18 years of age, or who has exceptional circumstances and studying in Australia on a Student Visa (Subclass 500).
The duration of stay is dependent on the length of the student’s course. You can stay in Australia until the student’s course ends or until the student turns 18 years old, whichever comes first.
This visa does not allow you to work while you are in Australia.
You can study in Australia for up to three months while you are in Australia as the guardian of the student.
The Training Visa (Subclass 407) is designed for individuals who want to take part in workplace-based occupational training activities or professional development programs in Australia.
The duration of the visa can vary based on the nature of the training program. It can be granted for up to 2 years, or up to 18 months in certain circumstances.
You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you need while the visa is valid.
